5 blogs & feeds you should be reading

July 14, 2008

1. The Big Picture – This blog produced by Boston.com publishes fantastic hi-res photographs of current events. The blog is updated about 3x a week and it has quickly become one for my favorites.

2. From Where I Sit by Michael Hyatt – Hyatt is the CEO & President of Thomas Nelson Publishers and writes about productivity, life plans, publishing, and technology. The blog has a large appeal and as expected the writing is very sharp. (He is after all a former editor and literary agent.)

3. CircleID Blogs – This is without question the best technology blog I read. It publishes articles from a wonderful group of writers that write about the topic of “Internet Infrastructure.” The topic is very broad, covering Internet Law, ICANN policies, ISP changes, and Internet Security. It is a sampling of the best tech minds in the world. A must read.

4. The Best of Townhall.com – This is a custom feed I created to give me the best content from Townhall.com. Townhall is the clearing house for the best Conservative thought in America. There are certain writers (Greenberg, Sowell, Star Parker) that I follow religiously and to focus my attention on those writers I parsed the Townhall Columnists Feed to only provide the authors I want. The authors include Paul Greenberg, Ken Blackwell, Chuck Colson, Charles Krauthammer, Michael Medved, Oliver North, Star Parker, Thomas Sowell, Fred Thompson, Walter E. Williams, Robert D. Novak.

5. Smashing Magazine – Desktop Wallpapesr, Icon sets, Favicons, Website Design, WordPress Themes, and more. If it involves design Smashing Mag finds the best. I’ve never worked in graphic design yet this blog is as compelling as any I read. It shares many free resources with developers and designers and the imagery is stunning. Their site states, “Our aim is to inform our readers about the latest trends and techniques in web-development – clearly, precisely and regularly. We don’t try to convince you with the quantity, but with the quality of the information we present.” They mean it. I hope you enjoy

Bonus: The Honorable Mentions

XKCD.com -The best webcomic ever.

Changeforge.com – A great blog that covers technology, productivity, customer relations, and printing solutions. Ken is a great writer and has built a wonderful blog.

PostSecret.com – A community project where people share very private secrets in a public format. The secrets range from Heartbreaking to Inspirational.

John Deering Editorial Cartoons -Deering is one of the top editorial cartoonists in America and is always provoking and thoughtful.
