Are you running Vista on a laptop? Did you know that you might not be benefiting from all your high-priced hardware? There is a little known setting in Vista that allows you to configure the balance between system performance and battery life.
The setting is found in the Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Power Options
It is configured with 3 predefined settings: Balance (default), Power Saver, High Performance.
If you are a road warrior and need to curtail Vista’s power sucking tendency you should consider the “Power Saver” profile. However, if you are determined to get the maximum performance out of your PC you should select “High Performance”. Note that you can also choose a custom scheme by clicking the “Change Plan Settings”.
Lean, Mean, and making it scream. So find an AC outlet and get cooking.
